On the occasion of 43rd anniversary of the death of President Ton Duc Thang (March 30, 1980 - March 30, 2023), on March 1, 2023, Ton Duc Thang Museum cooperated with the Management Board of the President Ton Duc Thang's Memorial Area, An Giang Province organized a thematic exhibit "Uncle Ton with the First National Assembly of Vietnam (1946-1960)" to help the public understand clearly about Uncle Ton's contributions to the First National Assembly of Vietnam.
With 83 images, the exhibit introduces to the public the birth of the National Assembly of Vietnam in the war situation, which is both an achievement and an urgent requirement of the revolution. The victory of the General Election marked the growth of the revolutionary State of Vietnam, opening a new period in which the country had a unified government and National Assembly, a progressive Constitution and a fully title government system on the legal side to represent for the Vietnamese people in domestic and foreign affairs.
As Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam and then Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee of Vietnam, Uncle Ton made many contributions in directing the implementation of the resistance war and nation building. He spent a lot of time meeting with intellectuals and religious figures to propagate the policy of great national unity; contacting, listening to and resolving the aspirations of all classes of people on the basis of the common interests of the nation. From there, it contributed to deciding on the victory of the resistance war.
During those 14-year term of operation, the First National Assembly of Vietnam devoted itself to the people, to the country and always put the interests of the people, the country first. Due to the war situation, it was not possible to convene enough delegates, but the National Assembly still met twice a year, all issues are authorized for the National Assembly's Standing Committee to settle. With 12 congresses, the First National Assembly of Vietnam has made great contributions to the construction of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam: recognizing the Government of the Union Resistance War, establishing a constitutional and legal government led by President Ho Chi Minh, passing 1946 Constitution and 1959 Constitution, 11 laws, 50 resolutions, ratifying the Geneva Accords.
Assessing the First National Assembly, at 12th session, the last session of the First National Assembly, President Ho Chi Minh said: "Our National Assembly itself devoted wholeheartedly for the people, for the country and caried out the glorious duties of the representatives of the people".
The opening exhibit was attended by Ms. Thai Thuy Xuan, Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of An Giang Provincial Party Committee and Mr. Nguyen Khanh Hiep, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of An Giang province and a large number of agencies. , departments, unions, students and people in An Giang Province and My Hoa Hung Commune.
